Answer

The Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986 provide protections for consumers, including in relation to online and any business trading in New Zealand. In November 2025, Hon Nicola Willis and I announced changes to increase maximum penalties for breaches of the Fair Trading Act and to support keeping product safety standards up to date.
