Answer

The consultation document published by Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) in 2023 on options to address the safety risks of corded window coverings included preliminary estimates of option costs and benefits. It estimated the cost of regulating safety features on corded window coverings for consumers and suppliers to be between $55.8 and $95.9 million over 30 years. It also estimated the cost of regulation prohibiting exposed cords for consumers and suppliers to be between $169.1 and $290.6 million over 30 years. The consultation paper can be found on the MBIE website.
