Question

  • Does the Minister agree with the Christchurch parents who claim there has been a concerted effort to control the narrative of the product recall notice, which was drafted in collaboration with MBIE; if so, what advice has he asked for?

Answer

Product recall notices are provided by suppliers, and suppliers are responsible for any representations made in them. While MBIE provides comment on notices in some cases, where it has relevant information, suppliers make the final decision about content. Separate from the recall notices, MBIE consulted with other specialist agencies to provide guidance for consumers on managing risks, which it communicated through media releases.
