Answer

In my capacity as the Prime Minister, I am the responsible minister for the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC). The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was a departmental agency hosted by DPMC until 25 September 2025. The Cyclone Recovery Chief Executive was a functional Chief Executive appointed under the Public Service Act 2020 in March 2023 and disestablished with effect from 1 July 2025. I am advised that in July 2025 DPMC announced final organisation change decisions following staff consultation. The roles established and disestablished in DPMC for the 2024/25 financial year are set out in Question 68: Roles proposed to be cut, in the DPMC Annual Review 2024/25, which is available on the following website: https://www3.parliament.nz/resource/en-NZ/54SCGOA_EVI_f908c1ba-7843-46a1-b6a2-08de12a0458d_GOA47335/db3f4f71c63398f61088f382597957a54c1b122b Due to privacy reasons details of the redundancies including associated costs cannot be disclosed. DPMC’s payment amounts are consistent with contractual obligations. I am advised that of the 69 roles established, 68 roles are funded beyond 30 June 2026. Planning for the current financial year is under active consideration and therefore not available.
