Answer

I am advised that, for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, is it not possible to provide a comprehensive answer to this question within the timeframe for answers to Written Questions. Information relating to communication costs can be found in the Estimate and Annual Review Questionnaires on the Parliament Website. For the Asia New Zealand Foundation, expenditure on media monitoring of events in and related to Asia has totalled NZ$11,399 in 2021/22; NZ$11,335 in 2022/23; NZ$12,804 in 2023/24; NZ$12,017 in 2024/25; and NZ$11,905 to date in 2025/26. Since 2021/22, the Foundation has spent approximately NZ$500 per year on advertising for Asia related events it hosts and does not maintain a dedicated advertising budget. Its expenditure on external relations and public relations over this period is nil. I am further advised that Antarctica New Zealand has incurred the following costs: In 2021/22: Scott Base Redevelopment external communications (NZ$29,000), core business external communications (NZ$28,000), core business media monitoring (NZ$20,000), and core business advertising (NZ$22,000). In 2022/23: Antarctic Science Platform external communications (NZ$27,000), core business external communications (NZ$2,000), media monitoring (NZ$20,000), and advertising (NZ$29,000). In 2023/24: Antarctic Science Platform external communications (NZ$9,000), core business external communications (NZ$19,000), media monitoring (NZ$9,000), and advertising (NZ$12,000). In 2024/25: Scott Base Redevelopment external communications (NZ$25,000), Antarctic Science Platform external communications and science synthesis (NZ$100,000), core business external communications (NZ$6,000), media monitoring (NZ$8,000), and advertising (NZ$12,000). For 2025/26 to date: core business external communications (NZ$11,000), media monitoring (NZ$8,000), and advertising (NZ$4,000).
