What redundancy or restructuring costs, if any, have been incurred by any department or entity for which the Minister is responsible since 27 November 2023, listed by department or entity, the number of positions disestablished, and the total cost of redundancy payments?
Answered by
Hon Chris Bishop
Member for Hutt South · National Party · Minister of Transport
Answer
In regard to the Ministry of Transport, I refer the Member to the responses provided to Question 172 and Question 187 of the Ministry of Transport Annual Review 2023/24 and the responses provided to Question 45 and Question 46 of the Ministry of Transport Annual Review 2024/25. For the period 1 July 2025 – present, the total value of redundancy payments is $163,500.80. The information on payments is not broken down as the small number involved means such information could result in individuals being identifiable. I am further advised by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi that 290 permanent and fixed term positions were disestablished as a result of organisational change during the period of 27 November 2023 through to February 2026, and redundancy payments made to those made redundant totalled $7,237,612.87.
