Answer

Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities publishes a quarterly report and additional quarterly statistics which both include information on unoccupied properties. The attached document has some of the unoccupied property statistics relating to the latest quarter ending 31 December 2025. I can also advise that the overall time from vacant to let is 22.9 days for the current financial year to 31 December 2025. Undertaking the detailed analysis requested would require substantial manual work. This would not be a good use of public resources, particularly when Kāinga Ora already publishes vacancy information on a regular basis. Kāinga Ora advises me that, in due course, it will publish the Quarterly report for the latest quarter at: https://www.kaingaora.govt.nz/en_NZ/publications/core-publications/annual-report/quarterly-report/ The full quarterly statistics report for this period is on its website at: https://www.kaingaora.govt.nz/en_NZ/publications/oia-and-proactive-releases/housing-statistics/. This is also my response to written questions 9077 to 9083 (2026)
