Answer

As Minister of Transport, I can confirm that the Government has established the EV Charging Infrastructure Loans programme. Applications for the programme closed on 22 July 2025 and an announcement on outcomes and next steps will be made shortly. I am advised there were 1,816 public charge points in New Zealand as at 23 February 2026. The recent jump in the total figure is due to a large set of existing Meridian charge points being added to the database.
