Answer

NZTA advised me that the specific analysis has not been provided to Police, noting that they already have access to this information. NZ Police play an important part in helping to make New Zealand roads safer through rigorous enforcement of those driving on our roads. Immigration NZ enforces immigration laws, while also ensuring the system balances the need for migrants with managing risks. As such, NZTA kept both enforcement agencies informed of its plans to audit, and the outcomes of the audit, associated with these overseas conversions. It should be noted that NZTA is also an enforcement agency. Any person who intentionally provides false or misleading information as part of their application for a New Zealand driver licence commits an offence under the Land Transport Act 1998 (LTA).
