Answer

As at 31 December 2025, there were 3,606 households in service of the Housing First programme. There were 1,038 households that were in service that were not yet housed in a stable home. Once someone enters the Housing First programme it can often take time to find them appropriate housing. The Government is providing $7 million for 300 social housing places for people already getting support through Housing First. The Ministry will do this by working with specific Housing First providers, who are also community housing providers, to lease homes from the private rental market. This means they can move faster to find a suitable house that suits someone’s specific needs.
