Under the proposed amendments to the Summary Offences Act, will there be any policy, guidelines or legislation in place to prevent Police delivering move-on notices which prohibit individuals from presenting in-person at social services they need to access (e.g. medical services, mental health support, food banks, housing services, Oranga Tamariki, or any other essential service)?

Answer

The Bill is currently being drafted. Members will have the opportunity to see the details of the Bill when it is introduced to Parliament. I expect Police will take these issues into consideration, where appropriate, when enforcing move-on orders. Police have arrangements in place to connect people to the services they require.
