How, if at all, were Treasury's concerns that the SMART (Student Monitoring, Assessment and Reporting Tool) "need to have a more robust change management plan, clear data privacy and ownership policies, confirmation that the delivery timeline is achievable for all workstreams, and strengthened stakeholder engagement, particularly with Māori medium education providers" addressed by the Minister or the Ministry of Education?

Answer

Corrected reply: In response to the concerns raised by Treasury I am advised that the Ministry of Education has: • undertaken a thorough Privacy Impact Assessment and progressed Certification and Accreditation processes so that both information and technology are well managed • engaged with kura throughout the development of the tool, including a dedicated trial period, to ensure SMART (Student Monitoring, Assessment and Reporting Tool) reflects the realities of teaching and learning in Māori medium settings.
