Question

  • When did NZTA first become aware of potential fraudulent overseas commercial driver licence conversions, and on what date was the Minister of Transport first informed?

Answered by

Hon Chris Bishop

Member for Hutt South · National Party · Minister of Transport

Answer

NZTA has advised me that it first became aware of previously unidentified potential issues in fraudulent overseas conversions in February 2025, while assessing efficacy of a control implemented the previous year. I was formally briefed on this specific cohort on 8 July 2025.
