Question

  • Further to WPQ 694 (2026), has Kāinga Ora assessed whether consenting delays are linked to workforce shortages within local authorities, and if so, what were the findings?

Hon Tama Potaka

Answer

Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that it monitors drivers of consenting delays and understands many councils face staffing pressures across planning and specialist functions, contributing to longer processing times. We work closely with councils, provide earlier pipeline visibility, and submit high quality applications to support faster processing.
