Question

  • What advice, briefings, correspondence or other communication, if any, has the Minister received on the cost comparison between LNG and domestic fossil gas?

Answered by

Hon Simon Watts

Answer

I have received a range of advice on both LNG prices, and gas prices. The future price of domestic gas is highly uncertain, but likely to continue to increase while supply is declining. MBIE has proactively released a Sense Partners report with CGE analysis of the regional and industrial impacts of declining gas - https://www.mbie.govt.nz/dmsdocument/31762-sense-partners-regional-and-industry-impacts-of-declining-gas-supply
