Answer
I am advised that in November 2022, a cyber security incident affected an external IT service provider (Mercury IT) that hosted systems for third party suppliers to the Ministry of Justice (the Ministry). The incident was a ransomware attack on the supplier’s environment and did not involve a database security breach of the Ministry’s own systems. The incident was managed as a supplier breach, and the Ministry did not incur any expenditure fixing database security breaches as a result. The Ministry manages database and security services for Te Tari Whakatau, who fall under the Ministry’s response.
