Question

  • What analysis, if any, has the Government undertaken of how the proposed Te Toi Mahana rent increases will affect tenants’ Accommodation Supplement entitlements?

Answered by

Hon Louise Upston

Member for Taupō · National Party · Minister for Social Development and Employment

Answer

I am advised that the Ministry of Social Development (the Ministry) has not completed any specific analysis relating to Te Toi Mahana. When landlords/housing providers increase rents, the Ministry will review a client’s entitlements when they let us know there has been a change in their circumstances. The Ministry is aware that many of its clients have redirections in place to pay their rent and the Wellington Region will be engaging Te Toi Mahana to make sure the Ministry has a process in place (for those in affordable rental homes) to have them processed in a timely manner.
