Question

  • What support, guidance, or resources, if any, did New Zealand receive from the World Health Organization during recent public health emergencies, including COVID-19, broken down by type and date?

Hon Simeon Brown

Answer

The World Health Organization (WHO) generally provides global advice and guidance to all Member States, rather than to New Zealand specifically. At times, the WHO may tailor the advice and guidance depending on how countries are experiencing a particular public health emergency, such as COVID-19, influenza and measles, at the time. Information is shared on the WHO’s website and public health event-specific information is shared in confidence with International Health Regulation State Parties via a secure website. On occasion, letters of support and advice are sent to government officials.
