Yes, I am confident that Archives New Zealand and the National Library of New Zealand will continue to meet their statutory obligations, including their responsibilities under the Public Records Act 2005 and the Official Information Act 1982, once the restructure is complete. The Department of Internal Affairs (the Department) is currently consulting with staff and unions on the proposal. While I receive regular updates on progress, any decisions on the proposal are for the Department to make. I expect the Secretary, the Chief Archivist and the National Librarian to ensure that any final organisational arrangements enable Archives New Zealand and the National Library to continue carrying out their statutory functions.
