What is the number of constabulary staff at New Zealand Police (actual strength (not including vacancies) as of 3 September 2026?
Answered by
Hon Mark Mitchell
Member for Whangaparāoa · National Party · Minister of Police
Answer
I am advised that as of 7 September 2026, Police had 11,121 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) Constabulary employees, made up of 10,577 FTE Constables and 543 FTE Authorised Officers. Please note that due to the consolidation of numbers, some minor rounding variations can occur between employee numbers. This rounding does not affect the overall position or integrity of the numbers reported.
