Question

  • What measures, if any, have been taken to embed space‑relevant themes into research programmes within the last six months?

Answered by

Hon Paul Goldsmith

List MP · National Party · Minister for Space

Answer

Space-relevant themes have been embedded in research programmes through funding settings and targeted investments. The Government's Science Investment Plan 2026-2036 identifies space-enabled innovation as an opportunity within the Technology for Prosperity Pillar, and upcoming Pillar Investment Plans will guide future research investments. MBIE's Catalyst Fund continues to recognise Space and Earth Observation as a priority area for international collaboration, supporting space-related research initiatives such as the SAR4SAR project, which uses satellite radar and artificial intelligence to enhance maritime search and rescue capability.
