Question

  • What impact, if any, does he expect the rates cap, due to take full effect by 2029, to have on the number and value of future Regional Infrastructure Fund applications that depend on local authority co-investment?

Answered by

Hon Shane Jones

List MP · NZ First · Minister for Regional Development

Answer

The Regional Infrastructure Fund is a Budget 2024 initiative appropriated until June 2027, with funds now mostly allocated. As the proposed rates cap has not yet been implemented, how each council will manage implementation is unknown. Any decisions regarding council co-investment in future projects is a matter for each individual council to consider alongside their local priorities and financial circumstances.
