Answer
I am advised by the Ministry of Education that as at June 2026, 2,631 students have participated within a formally funded Secondary-Tertiary Programme (STP)/Trades Academy Construction and Infrastructure vocational pathway. This represents 23.9 percent of total participants in 2026 to June. Data is not collected at a more refined level in terms of subject. However, the majority of these places will have been used within a Building and Construction (such as BCATs) course offering. Secondary-Tertiary Programmes do not include formal apprenticeships. Rather, students are working towards attainment of NCEA or equivalent and gaining valuable foundational skills to support their future, which may or may not include apprenticeships. Information is therefore not collected by apprenticeship type and number. Allocations for 2027 and future years are yet to be confirmed.
