I met with a range of stakeholders to discuss the Social Security and Community Select Committee’s report and recommendations on the DSS Bill on Thursday, 13 August 2026 from 1.30pm – 2pm. The engagement occurred via a single joint briefing on Microsoft Teams, after the Committee had presented its report to Parliament. In attendance were community and carers representative organisations, sector organisations, and representatives from the Independent Monitoring Mechanism. The purpose of meeting with stakeholders was to: • re-engage with representative groups that had met with me in earlier stages of the Bill’s progress • provide these stakeholders with a briefing on the main changes to the Bill following the Select Committee report back and the likely next steps • ensure clarity of purpose and intent of any changes in the DSS Bill, and understand likely community and sector needs ahead of broader communications • support the sharing of information and provide reassurance to the disability community. Overall, the feedback from the group was that the amendments proposed by the Select Committee are improvements. Many of the stakeholders I met with have published their views on the changes.
