Further to the reply to written question 32030 (2026), what criteria or thresholds determine whether an initial national interest risk assessment is undertaken, how many transactions were considered for such an assessment in the 2025/26 financial year, and how many were screened out without proceeding to a full assessment?

Answer
Applications under the pathways $5 million plus house, Primary consent, and Production forestry are subject to an initial national interest risk assessment under section 19A of the Overseas Investment Act 2005. There were 43 consents granted under these pathways in 2025/26. None of these consents were escalated for a full national interest assessment. A further two applications under these pathways were subject to a mandatory national interest assessment, therefore were not subject to an initial national interest risk assessment.
