Answer

The guidelines were based on guidance previously published by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) in August 2025. In preparing the 2025 guidance, LINZ consulted with the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment, the Treasury, and LINZ’s legal reference group, comprising 11 lawyers in private practice who have expertise in overseas investment matters. LINZ did not consult when preparing the 2026 guidelines as the content and structure had already been extensively consulted on.
