Answer
The Government is currently funding Stage 1 of the Queenstown Package, which supports growth by improving the SH6/SH6A Frankton intersection and bus hub, and the SH6/Howards Drive intersection. NZTA advises that the Howards Drive upgrade is being progressed as a signalised intersection with an additional fourth leg to unlock future development under the Te Pūtahi - Ladies Mile Structure Plan. Further stages of the Queenstown Package have been designed but are not currently funded for construction. These future stages include intersection capacity upgrades, improved walking and cycling connections and continuous bus priority through Frankton, enabling high capacity and high-quality public transport, thus supporting housing growth. Funding for these stages will be considered through future National Land Transport Programme processes and prioritised alongside other projects. The Government expects new developments to appropriately mitigate the transport impacts they create. Public investment is generally targeted at strategic transport infrastructure that delivers broader public benefits and supports the efficient movement of people and goods across the network, rather than addressing the impacts of individual developments alone.
