Answer

In 2026, schools have been encouraged to use progress markers. From 2027, schools will be required to use the progress markers, which will form part of the national curriculum under section 90 of the Education and Training Act 2020. More information on Reporting to Parents and Whānau is available here: https://newzealandcurriculum.tahurangi.education.govt.nz/5637359076.p?activeTab=tab+1:3#FileDownloads This is also my response to written parliamentary question 36063 (2026).
