  • What work, if any, are the Electoral Commission doing to ensure people enrol prior to October?

Answer

The Electoral Commission (the Commission) will be undertaking a public education programme starting 10 August encouraging people to enrol or update their details by 4 October to make voting easy at the voting place. Information will emphasise that the rules are different this election and people must be enrolled before voting starts. It will clearly state that 25 October is the last day people can enrol to vote in this election. This year, the Commission is implementing an enrolment strategy which includes a specific focus on communicating changes to enrolment, and why voting is important. I am advised the Enrolment Strategy provides access to trusted and timely information for the public through a variety of channels, and regular access to facilities where they can enrol or update their details ahead of the roll close on 25 October 2026. The Commission will continue to use digital channels to encourage people on the dormant roll to enrol if they have provided their email addresses or cell phone numbers. For example, texts will be sent to people on the dormant roll later this month.
