Question

  • Further to reply 33608 (2026), has the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade reviewed its handling of this vote, and will any changes be made to its instruction-setting, delegation, or escalation practices as a result?

Answered by

Rt Hon Winston Peters

List MP · NZ First · Minister of Foreign Affairs

Answer

No. The Ministry regularly reviews its approach to consider whether improvements or changes in processes are needed. In this instance, no changes appear to be necessary. It is accepted, however, that in ideal circumstances, the information which led to the decision to abstain would have been available to relevant officials earlier.
