  • Have any representations, protests, or expressions of concern been made to the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing by any Chinese authority concerning remarks made in the New Zealand Parliament on 29 July 2026, at any time since that date; if so, on what dates and in what terms?

Rt Hon Winston Peters

Answer

The Chinese and New Zealand Government have had two phone calls on this matter: one in Wellington on 30 July 2026 and one in Beijing on 31 July 2026. In these phone calls, the Chinese Government made points consistent with those made in its public comments on the matter.
