Further to the answer to question for written answer 32026 (2026), does the $23.8 billion gross investment value represent consideration paid to vendors, capital committed to be invested in New Zealand, the value of assets acquired, or some combination, and what is the amount attributable to each?

Answer
Depending on the nature of the transaction, and why it needed consent, Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) records either “the value of, or consideration provided for, the securities being acquired”, or “the value of, or consideration provided for, the assets being acquired (which may include either the purchase price for land or the total lifetime lease payments)”, or “the total expenditure expected to be incurred before commencing business in New Zealand (which may also include asset purchases and lease payments)”. Accordingly, it is not possible to break the $23.8 billion gross investment value down in a meaningful way. However, the $23.8 billion value does not include the value of any additional capital committed to be invested in New Zealand, unless that capital is being deployed as part of the establishment of a new business.
