  • How many texts has the Electoral Commission sent to individuals in 2026 advising “if you don’t update your details or get touch within 14 days, you’ll need re-enrol before you can vote in future elections”, if any, and how does the compare with previous two elections?

Answer

I am advised that the Electoral Commission sends a text message prompting electors, where they have provided a mobile number, to make sure their details are up to date when electoral correspondence is returned because it cannot be delivered to their address. A text reminder is sent if there is no response to the initial text after 14 days. If no response is received 14 days after the reminder, the person is moved to the dormant roll. The process was implemented in July 2021. As of 7 August 2026, 12,386 of the initial SMS have been sent with 11,222 reminders sent.
