Answer
Health New Zealand's commitments under the Western Bay of Plenty Deal are set out in Schedule 1 of the publicly available Western Bay of Plenty Deal. These commitments build on Health New Zealand's and the Sub Region’s commitment to work together to support the provision of health facilities in the Sub Region, including establishing an Independent Joint Planning Group, redeveloping Tauranga Hospital, and establishing a new urban ambulatory hub in Tauranga. No funding commitments have been made under the Deal. The Budget 2026 infrastructure package provides funding for design work and some enabling works associated with the Tauranga Hospital redevelopment. The proposed urban ambulatory hub is identified in the Health Infrastructure Plan. Investments proposed in the Health Infrastructure Plan and the Western Bay of Plenty Deal remain subject to standard Treasury business case processes, successful Budget funding requests, and assessments of value for money and affordability
