Question

  • Why was David Smol reappointed to the NZTA board for a further two years when other members were found not to meet the balance of skills and experience he considered the board required?

Answered by

Hon Chris Bishop

Member for Hutt South · National Party · Minister of Transport

Answer

Good practice requires that the NZTA Board possesses the collective skills knowledge, and experience required to appropriately govern the Agency's functions. I considered that Mr Smol's reappointment was necessary to maintain continuity and support the Board's governance of critical functions - particularly regulation with the Chair of the Regulatory Committee not seeking reappointment.
