Question

  • What automated approvals, if any, are currently operating within the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any?

Answered by

Hon Todd McClay

Member for Rotorua · National Party · Minister for Trade and Investment

Answer

For New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, none. NZTE does not currently use artificial intelligence systems for automated decision-making. NZTE’s policy requires human oversight of AI-assisted outputs and decisions, and AI tools are used to support staff productivity rather than make decisions on behalf of NZTE. Invest New Zealand does not currently use artificial intelligence systems for automated decision-making. For the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, I refer the Member to the Minister of Foreign Affairs' response to WPQ 34067 (2026).
