Question

  • What automated approvals, if any, are currently operating within the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any?

Answered by

Hon Mark Mitchell

Member for Whangaparāoa · National Party · Minister of Police

Answer

I am advised that, in circumstances where New Zealand Police holds no information relating to an individual, a vetting response may be system-generated to confirm the absence of any record. Such responses are administrative in nature and do not involve any assessment, approval, or decision-making regarding the individual concerned. The response simply reflects that no relevant information is held by Police and should not be interpreted as a substantive determination of the individual's suitability, status, or circumstances. Police’s operations may also include some degree of automation in administrative or corporate systems, such as for handling leave requests or equipment provisioning. The Serious Fraud Office is not operating any automated approval processes.
