Answer

I am advised that Police’s procurement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools follows the Government Procurement Rules and the New Zealand Police Procurement Policy. In accordance with the Government Procurement Rules, Police has used various procurement processes for AI tools that are currently in use, including Request for proposal, Secondary procurement, and Direct source. For the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools including any incorporating artificial intelligence (AI), are sourced in accordance with SFO’s Procurement Policy and the Government Rules of Sourcing. The AI tools currently approved for use at the SFO are primarily open source (no cost), add-in applications to software already deployed, or sourced ad-hoc at minimal cost for testing purposes and as such, no formal procurement process was required.
