Question

  • What consideration, if any, was given to evidence that more than 1,000 children and young people in Gisborne do not have a proper home during the development of the Government's additional $14.5 million homelessness and rough-sleeping support package?

Answered by

Hon Chris Bishop

Member for Hutt South · National Party · Minister of Housing

Answer

The locations selected for the additional $14.5 million homelessness and rough-sleeping support package were selected based on insights gathered during the production of the March 2026 Homelessness Insights Report, existing services that could be leveraged, and local provider capacity to stand up services quickly. Tairāwhiti was considered but not selected through this process.
