Question

  • What happens to a home charging unit installed at Crown expense when the Minister ceases to hold ministerial office, and is any residual value recovered?

Answered by

Rt Hon Christopher Luxon

Member for Botany · National Party · Minister responsible for Ministerial Services

Answer

I am advised that when a Minister ceases to hold Ministerial office, and if they had an EV charger installed by the Department of Internal Affairs at their primary residence, the EV charger will remain at the residence as this is the most cost-effective option. Accordingly, no residual value is recovered. Leaving the EV charger at the residence is considered the most cost-effective option as: • Removal of EV chargers incur additional costs for the decommissioning and removal of the unit and make good of the residence. These costs are unpredictable • EV chargers have a 2-year warranty and therefore, generally have no residual value by the time a Minister is no longer in office. • The removal of EV Chargers incurs additional costs for the decommissioning and removal of the unit, and these costs can be unpredictable.
