What is known about quality teaching and learning in a changing world that the Ministry of Education expects will be reflected in its review of Initial Teacher Education standards?
Answered by
Hon Erica Stanford
Member for East Coast Bays · National Party · Minister of Education
Answer
The Ministry of Education continues to develop guidance and tools for quality teaching and learning that reflect the growing evidence base on best practice, are informed by the approaches of peer jurisdictions, and support consistent implementation of a knowledge-rich curriculum for the benefit of all New Zealand students. This is reflected in a range of new and upcoming supports available for teachers, leaders, and students, including professional development offerings, programmes to accelerate student progress and achievement, and resources to support teachers to effectively plan and deliver the updated curriculum. These evidence informed changes about quality teaching and learning are informing work underway to strengthen initial teacher education, supporting coherence across the wider education system.
