Answer

The independent Review of the Biometric Projects undertaken by Greg James made a number of findings regarding the Biometric Capability Update (BCU) Project. These are outlined in the review which can be found here: www.mbie.govt.nz/dmsdocument/32155-review-of-the-biometric-projects-biometric-capability-update-bccu-and-ipe-projects. The following actions are being taken in response to the Greg James review findings: • PSC is conducting an inquiry into the integrity of MBIE’s conduct into the Biometric Capability Update project. This is being undertaken by Michael Heron KC. • MBIE will conduct a stocktake of all technology projects and the governance, quality assurance and reporting arrangements in place and identify any changes that need to be made. • MBIE will strengthen major investment project systems and processes, and seek independent assurance that they are fit for purpose and best practice. • PSC will conduct an assurance review of the Our Future Services programme to provide assurance that the OFS programme is being governed, managed, reported on, and delivered in a manner that provides a sound basis for Cabinet and public confidence.
