Why has the rate of sensitive claims being declined by ACC increased year on year since 2023?
Answered by
Hon Scott Simpson
Member for Coromandel · National Party · Minister for ACC
Answer
I am advised that the number of sensitive claims ACC declined because the client is not eligible for cover has decreased year-on-year since 2024. There were 752 declined claims in 2024 and 692 declined claims in 2025. There have been 276 declined claims in 2026. A sensitive claim may be declined because the cover timeframe expires before ACC has the information it needs to make a decision or when a client elects to withdraw their claim. These claims can be reopened.
