Question

  • How does he intend to have “good conversations about use of water”, and will the public have the opportunity to be part of those conversations?

Answered by

Hon Chris Bishop

Member for Hutt South · National Party · Minister responsible for RMA Reform

Answer

The Government is in the process of reforming the resource management system and, as part of that, replacing national direction on freshwater management. We have previously consulted on a range of options to better reflect the interests of all water users, and expect to progress changes in the new system. Any proposals relating to freshwater management will be subject to public consultation under the processes established by the new laws. This will provide opportunities for New Zealanders to contribute to discussions about the use of water and other natural resources.
