What advice, if any, has he received to indicate that there will not be a significant impact on electricity prices from data centres?

Hon Simeon Brown

Answer
I am advised that current projections of data centre demand growth are not expected to put significant upward pressure on electricity prices over the next three years. This reflects, in part, the Government's actions to address dry-year risk and strengthen the resilience of the electricity system. However as signalled in Written Parliamentary Question 33655 (2026), work is underway to ensure that further ahead, data centres will not create upwards pressure on electricity prices.
