Data centres typically create significant employment during construction, and a smaller number of jobs to support their ongoing operation. The number of jobs created by a data centre will depend on its size and type. Datagrid has indicated that its planned data centre in Makarewa is expected to create 1,200 jobs during construction. Once built and operational, the facility is expected to create 50 to 80 ongoing operational jobs, according to public reporting.
