Question

  • When was the state house at 19 Oranga Street, Marfell, New Plymouth built and what characteristics of this property made it suitable for Kāinga Ora's state house sales programme?

Hon Chris Bishop

Answer

Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that this four-bedroom, single-storey home was built in 1963. Until recently, the property was leased to a Community Group Housing (CGH) provider, however, this recently ended. Kāinga Ora considered the home for social housing, however, the design and layout of it was assessed as not being suitable for this purpose. Additionally, there was limited demand for this typology in Marfell at the time.
