Question

  • When was the state house at 61 Hillcrest Street, Solway, Masterton built and what characteristics of this property made it suitable for Kāinga Ora's state house sales programme?

Answered by

Hon Chris Bishop

Member for Hutt South · National Party · Minister of Housing

Answer

Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that this home was purchased in 2001 specifically for use within the Community Group Housing (CGH) programme and supported two CGH providers between 2001 and 2025. The decision to divest was based on the age of the property (built 1906), its eight-bedroom typology and design, and the absence of demand for Community Group Housing in this location.
