Question

  • When was the state house at 53 Renall Street, Masterton built and what characteristics of this property made it suitable for Kāinga Ora's state house sales programme?

Answered by

Hon Chris Bishop

Member for Hutt South · National Party · Minister of Housing

Answer

Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that this property was purchased in 2002 specifically for use within the Community Group Housing (CGH) programme and supported three CGH providers between 2002 and 2025. The decision to divest was based on a combination of factors, including the age of the property (built in 1952), its six-bedroom typology and design, and the absence of demand for Community Group Housing in this location.
