Question

  • How many referrals relating to suspected ovarian cancer have been made annually, if any, since the introduction of direct community pelvic ultrasound referral pathways, broken down by year?

Answered by

Hon Simeon Brown

Member for Pakuranga · National Party · Minister of Health

Answer

I am informed that prior to September 2025 there was significant variation in access to community pelvic ultrasound referral depending on the district that a person lived in. Phased rollout of nationally consistent, increased, community access radiology services, including ultrasound imaging, was initiated in September 2025. Since then there has been an increase in the number of accepted referrals. I am further advised that there is not yet sufficient data to assess whether the annual number of referrals for treatment of ovarian cancer have increased as a result.
